2 People-Centered Projects by the New Construction Office Honored Again, Receiving 3 Awards
The “Liugong Green Corridor Pedestrian Environment Improvement Project” and the “Nangang Elevated Connecting Platform and Associated Greening Facilities Turnkey Project,” implemented by the New Construction Office of the Taipei City Government’s Public Works Department, were respectively awarded the “Excellence” and “Honorable Mention” under the “Engineering Sustainability and Environmental Aesthetics Awards” by the Chinese Institute of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering on November 21, 2025. On the same day, the “Liugong Green Corridor Pedestrian Environment Improvement Project” also received the “Taipei Impact Design Award” – “TDA Special Award” under the 2025 Taipei Design Award, further highlighting the superior quality of the New Construction Office’s projects and its achievements in creating a citizen-friendly, people-oriented urban environment, garnering wide recognition. The “Liugong Green Corridor Pedestrian Environment Improvement Project” core concept centers on creating a high-quality, “people-oriented walking environment” and “connecting the green corridors of the Eastern District.” The project targets the southern and northern sides of Lane 135, Section 1 of Fuxing South Road, including the central parking lot area. Through connecting the southern road section, adjusting the roadway cross-section layout, and reviewing existing facilities and accessibility, the project introduces a large-scale green plaza into the bustling commercial Eastern District. In addition to the use of permeable pavements, multi-layered green spaces, and newly planted vegetation, the design incorporates scenic lighting elements to evoke the historic image of the Liugong Canal, creating a pedestrian plaza that is people-centric, resilient, and intellectually engaging, as well as a more accessible and pedestrian-friendly environment. Following its completion and opening, the project now offers a comfortable green recreational space that connects with the core green corridor of the Eastern District, serving local residents, shoppers, tourists, and other visitors. It showcases a vibrant and diverse streetscape, further enhancing the overall pedestrian experience and earning recognition from both local businesses and the community. The “Nangang Elevated Connecting Platform and Associated Greening Facilities Turnkey Project” is designed under the Eastern District Gateway Project 2.0, which seeks to make Nangang, following Xinyi District, another administrative district in Taipei City with a three-dimensional pedestrian connection system. This project aims to be a key hub in the city's skywalk network by constructing an elevated connecting platform. It will enliven activities between the skybridge and ground level and more effectively guide the flow of people between the Taipei Music Center and the skywalk system. In addition, it helps shape Nangang District as the city’s green corridor, providing citizens with a more comfortable and pedestrian-friendly environment for leisure and mobility.
